Every year before Diwali, we clean our homes thoroughly. We open cupboards, throw out what we no longer need, and make space for Goddess Lakshmi to enter. But have you ever thought about cleaning your mind the same way?
Just as clutter collects in our homes, emotional clutter collects in our minds. Old hurts, limiting beliefs, regrets, and repeated negative thoughts quietly drain our energy. This Diwali, let us declutter within.
Step 1: Notice what you are carrying
Take a pen and paper and ask yourself: What am I still holding on to from this year? It could be an argument, a failure, guilt, or a fear about the future. Write it all down without judging yourself. Awareness is the first step to release.
Step 2: Identify the belief behind the pain
Often, we are not stuck because of the event itself but because of what we decided it meant. "I failed once, so I will always fail." "I was hurt, so I cannot trust anyone." Many of these beliefs began in childhood. Inner child healing and hypnotherapy work gently with such early experiences, helping us understand that being scarred does not mean being broken.
Step 3: Reframe the story
NLP teaches us that we cannot always change what happened, but we can change the meaning we attach to it. Ask yourself: *What did this experience teach me? How did it make me stronger?* A reframed story gives you power back.
Step 4: Release with a simple ritual
On the evening before Diwali, write down what you want to let go of on a small piece of paper. Read it once, thank it for the lesson, and then safely tear it up or burn it. Symbolic acts speak directly to the subconscious mind and help it accept that a chapter has closed.
Step 5: Make room for new light
Once you clear the space, fill it with intention. Write three things you want to welcome in the coming year, such as health, peace, healthy relationships, or financial growth. State them in the present tense: "I am calm, confident, and abundant." Repeat them each morning.
Include your family
If you are a parent, involve your children. Ask them what worries they want to "light away" this Diwali. Children who learn to express and release emotions grow into confident, resilient adults.
Diwali is not only about lamps in the window. It is about lighting the lamp of awareness inside you. When you clear the old, the new arrives naturally.
